In which age group should I play?

The WRFL has established the following age guidance, to help create an even competition and good opportunities for all players to get the most from their games.

” The eligibility of an under-age competition player shall be determined by the age of the player on the last day of December immediately prior to the start of the current season. “

For 2020:

Under-8s (kids born in 2012-2013 – and must be 7 before April 30)

Under-10s (kids born in 2010-2011)

Under-12s (kids born in 2008-2009)

Under-14s (kids born in 2006-2007).

Detailed information can be obtained in the WRFL By-Laws. See Section 4.1.2.

Our committee is at work – February update

At our 2nd meeting of 2019, we reviewed the progress of our recruitment of players, committee members and coaches. With a good stable from last year and our word-of-mouth advertising working well, we have made good progress across the board.

We were able to allocate particular committee members to particular roles, to ensure we have the right focus on player recruitment, marketing, sponsorship, external liaison and communications – all needing particular focus right now.

There’s a lot of preparation needed to have our teams ready to take the field – so we have to pay particular attention to the lead times required. We’re lucky to have so many well-connected and experienced people part of our club – who know how to get things done!

We’re looking forward to a great 2019 season – and hope you are too!

2019 Committee Members Needed

PEGS Juniors are seeking parent volunteers from each team to join the club committee.

Ideally we need 3 committee members from each team, to assist with the running of the club, including budget, communication, event management, sponsorship and general match day logistics.

Meetings are generally held once a month, and are a great way to ensure each team get equal representation at the committee level.

Message us if you would like to get involved on the committee, or if you possess a skill set that would be an asset to the club.

Under 8s in 2019

There has been a huge amount of interest in an under-8 team for next year. The under-8 competition is played with modified rules according to the AFL Junior Match Policy (see below) with an emphasis on building basic skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and confidence. There is no tackling.

To be eligible to play, children must have:

1. Turned 7 years of age by April 30, 2019 and
2. Be less than years of age 8 as of December 31 of this year.

Budding footballers who are too young to play in 2019 are more than welcome to join the club and train with the team, to get a head start for 2020.

We will be opening registration soon, with some fun pre-season training planned to start in mid-late November. Stay tuned!

All the policies can be found in the AFL Australian Match Policy document.

Foundation of the PEGS Juniors Football Club

2012 will be remembered for the beginning of something special in the PEGS Community. Club President Stephen O’Hare headed up an enthusiastic group of passionate PEGS people including the PEGS School board & staff in making the junior club come to life. The concept had been discussed for many years, however now was the time to make it happen – with the right resources and commitment from all parties.

The club launched the Under 10 PEGS Juniors team in 2012 competing in the Western Region Football League. With great support from school parents, staff and most importantly the kids it became a raging success in the first year.

Everyone involved with PEGS Football Club is very thankful for the positive working relationship with all members of the school board, support from school staff. The club would also like to thank the foundation players and parents who participated in the inaugural year.

There is something special at the PEGS Juniors Football Club and we encourage interested people to become involved as the club expands into a powerhouse of the local region in the future.
